Fleming College Launches Entrance Scholarships to Support Student Success and Workforce Needs

Fleming College has announced the launch of its first-ever Entrance Scholarships program, a new initiative aimed at reducing financial barriers for incoming students while supporting enrollment in high-demand programs aligned with workforce needs.

Starting in the 2026–27 academic year, the college will invest $100,000 in entrance scholarships, benefiting 50 full-time domestic students. The scholarships will provide $2,000 awards across five key student groups, including mature learners, students entering the Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography program, skilled trades students, applied health students, and Fleming alumni returning for further education.

The initiative comes at a time when many institutions are reassessing student financial support due to recent changes in the Ontario Student Assistance Program. Fleming College said the new scholarship program is designed to improve student access to education while also supporting enrollment growth in priority sectors such as healthcare and skilled trades.

According to college leadership, the program is funded through a combination of donor contributions, including the Fleming Forward Fund, private donors, and revenue from the TD Insurance Affinity program.

College officials said the scholarships will be automatically awarded based on academic achievement and eligibility criteria. Students must accept their offer of admission by May 1, 2026, to be considered, with recipients selected based on academic performance.

The college said the program supports its broader strategic priorities, including expanding applied health programs, strengthening skilled trades education, and improving student recruitment and retention. The initiative is also expected to help address workforce shortages by encouraging more students to enroll in high-demand fields aligned with regional and provincial workforce needs.

Fleming College said the entrance scholarships represent both an investment in student success and a long-term strategy to strengthen the talent pipeline in critical sectors of the economy.
